How To Find Products To Sell From Home

Selling products for companies can be pretty lucrative. In fact, your full-time income can come from selling products out of the comfort of your home. You have to find a profitable product, advertise it to an audience, and the money will start flowing.

Many people make more than a decent living through affiliate marketing, eCommerce, and direct sales. Of course, you can get in on the action too! Imagine getting rid of your 9-5 job and replacing it with a “side-hustle” that rakes in way more cash.

Suppose all of these things sound good to you, excellent! You’ve come to the right place. In this post, I’m going to give you the best ways to sell products for companies and get paid. With enough dedication, you never have to set foot in an office again.

Do companies want you to sell their products?

Yes, they encourage it by offering to pay a commission for those who sell their products. You can be a “middleman” through affiliate marketing, direct sales, wholesale, and drop shipping. First, you have to figure out which companies are willing to pay you and how you’re going to sell products.

So what are the main ways you can sell products to your audience?

1. Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate programs make it possible for everyone to promote products of certain companies and get paid for them. The premise is: you recommend a product, and you get paid when someone buys it because of you. Your real job is to convince your audience to take the bite and buy the product through your affiliate link.

I’ve been blogging for a while now. I could write an article about skin serums. My review of different skin serums might encourage my readers to buy the products that I mentioned. I could convince the reader well enough to click on a link that takes them to the Amazon page where that specific product is sold. I earn a little bit of money every time I send someone to that page.

Where can I find affiliate products that I can make content about?

There are tons of places on the internet where you can find affiliate products. I like to use ShareASale, which is an affiliate network.

Companies that need advertising from ordinary folk like you and me partner with ShareASale to get a hold of us. So you get access to thousands of companies consolidated in one place. By going to that site, I can find a variety of products to promote in a few seconds.

Please take note that just because a company is on ShareASale, you can’t start promoting their products right away. Before you start selling, you have to apply to each company, and they may approve or deny you.

Your chances of getting approved are much higher if your website gets a lot of traffic. If you’re an unknown on the internet, you’re likely to get a lot of rejections. So before you can make serious money with affiliate marketing, you have to build up your online reputation first.

2. Direct Sales

Companies that make direct sales offer a line of products that people outside of the company can sell. Customers can only get their hands on these products by buying them from distributors, not anywhere else.

The main benefit that I see from direct sales is that you can work under a company’s business license. You also get access to exclusive products that are difficult to find elsewhere.

Direct sales are what’s commonly called multi-level marketing or pyramid schemes, which is why it gets a pretty bad rep. You can run into trouble if you try to sell to people who are perpetually turned off by “sales-y” people.

I have my own process for looking at these opportunities. In fact, my wife is a rep for a company called Zyia Active. You can learn a bit more about the industry in that article.

Which direct sales companies are the most profitable?

There’s no one answer to that. The honest answer depends on what products you’re passionate about. You can make a lot of sales if you don’t believe in the product you’re endorsing. If you care about what you’re pushing, you’re more likely to sustain your interest and keep making money.

If you want to get technical, the primary measure of a company’s profitability is its revenue. Let’s look at the top direct sales companies right now.

  1. Avon
  2. Amway
  3. Herbalife
  4. Zyia Active
  5. Vorwerk
  6. Mary Kay
  7. Natura Cosmeticos
  8. Melaleuca
  9. Coway
  10. Nu Skin

As you can see, the number one direct sales company you can work for is Amway. They have many lines of household products, making them easy to sell to friends and acquaintances. If you want to do some research, this list of 500 direct sales companies is an excellent place to start.

Remember, you want to sell for a company that you believe in. You would also do better in selling consumable products, meaning products that people will run out of and have to buy from you again and again.

How do you make real money with direct sales?

Succeeding in direct sales is all about building relationships and genuinely wanting to help people out.

Let’s say you’re trying to sell weight-loss products. A distributor will fail if they bombard random people with random information. No one is receptive to that kind of approach, and they will want to be left alone.

A distributor that will succeed will try to build a relationship with an audience. He or she could start an online exercise class or fitness group. Then they could offer their services as a coach or meal planner. Consultation is always going to be free to entice people into joining.

Then when they have established a loyal group, they could offer the said weight loss products. Paid exclusive sessions can be provided in exchange for discounts on these products.

The primary thing I want to impart here is not to shove products into people’s faces because no one likes that. Do your best to build a relationship with your audience, offer them something that can improve their lives, and don’t be a nuisance. Eventually, the people you attract will be even more likely to purchase products that you promote.

3. Wholesale

Wholesale means you buy products that you buy in bulk at a discount with the intention to resell them for a higher price. If you choose to go this route, you will have to get a business license and a reseller’s permit.

Let me give you an example. Say you find quality shampoos that you want to sell. You can contact the manufacturer, and they’ll tell you where you can find a distributor. Maybe the distributor says that you can buy the shampoos for 40% off the retail price.

After you bulk up your inventory, you can then sell the shampoos at retail price. You’d now be making 40% of your money with each sale you make. As you can see, wholesale selling can be highly profitable if you find products you can push quickly.

The only drawback to wholesaling is that finding a supplier can be challenging at times. If you find a product that you really want to sell, the work certainly doesn’t end there. You have to find someone who is carrying those products in bulk.

You’ll have a tough time if your business is not that established yet.

How do you find wholesale suppliers?

You have to do your research online and go to a couple of trade shows. Again, finding a wholesale supplier is not going to be an easy task, especially if you have a startup business. Just remember that the payoff is excellent when you do find a supplier that’s willing to sell to you.

One popular trade show is ASD Marketweek. In these trade shows, you get to network with vendors and meet face-to-face with those in charge of sales in their companies. Meeting someone in person is way better than sending an email their way.

It’s unfortunate that most of your online efforts as a beginner are likely to be ignored. But don’t give up! Jump on the first chance you can get to go to a trade show to find suppliers because it’s going to be much easier there.

If you already have a good idea of what products to sell right now. Try your luck and go to the company’s website. Some sites have About Pages regarding becoming a reseller. The sooner you find this information, the sooner you can start the application process.

Each company has its own rules for retailers, so read up before you apply. For example, you might find companies that don’t accept people if they only intend to sell on Amazon, eBay, or other online marketplaces.

4. Dropshipping

Dropshipping works by selling products on one website that you can buy for cheaper somewhere else. Your job would be to order products on more affordable websites when your customers order them from you. The cheaper website will then ship your customer’s orders.

Let me give you an example. Let’s say you find a pack of stickers for $10 at Walmart. On Amazon, someone is selling the same pack of stickers for $14. So selling that pack of stickers to someone will earn you $4, not including Amazon fees.

To further increase your profits, you can use cashback programs like Rakuten or use credit cards with cashback features.

The drawback of dropshipping is that it requires a lot of attention. Some products might not be available when you have to place orders. Prices also vary from time to time, which may lose you money. Customers may also feel a bit miffed when they receive a package from Walmart instead of Amazon. They could find out fairly easily that they could have gotten the item cheaper elsewhere.

What products are the most profitable to sell?

Naturally, the most profitable products are the ones with the highest conversion rates. I’m talking about products that will easily convert your audience into sales. Of course, it would be ideal if the products are on the expensive side as well.

To illustrate my point, let’s think about two products. The first product can sell for $100, but its conversion rate is only 2%. The other product sells for $20, but its conversion rate is 25%.

Let’s say you have an audience of 100 people. The first product is only going to get two sales out of the hundred opportunities you have, amounting to $200. The second product is going to get to 25 sales, amounting to $500.

So selling cheaper products isn’t necessarily a bad thing, especially if it has a high conversion rate. Again, the ideal is a product with a high conversion rate and a high price.

What are the best products to sell online?

I would have to say digital products and courses because they’re not available in real life. They also tend to have high-profit margins because you only need to make the product once.

You can create the digital products that you sell. In fact, it’s best if you do so. If you can’t, then find companies that already have products intended for resale.

Offering online courses is an excellent business model because your customers have to pay for classes. You can then sell more products within the classes by recommending them.

Conclusion

As you can see, it’s very possible to make it big by selling products for companies. It will need time and dedication, but the payoff is worth it. Whichever method you choose from above, make sure to find the right products and the right companies.

Build a steady flow of traffic to your site and gain the trust of your audience. Sales is really a gig that revolves around relationships. You can’t be successful as a business owner if you come across as disingenuous or pushy.

Remember, successful marketing is performance-based. It would be best if you put the work in so that companies will entrust their products to you. If you sell excellent products, it will likely boost your online reputation too.

People will gravitate towards you more if they find that you support brands that they like. I hope you learned a thing or two from this post. I encourage you to get deeper in your research now that you have an idea of what products are best to sell from home.
